Going Back to School at 50
One of the more noticeable things that I noticed while in college was the number of "mature" students that were enrolled in the same classes that I was. There were students that were the same age as my parents, back in school, looking for new careers - while I was just starting out my journey to my career as well.
I had the opportunity to get to know many of them as we were in study groups and worked on assignments together. You could definitely tell that most of them took their schooling more seriously than we did, and their marks definitely provided proof of their attitude.
One of the best friendships I developed in college was with a lady that was older than my mother and studying to become a Dietician. It was from her that I learned the importance of going to school now, instead of waiting later on in life like she did.
I would guess that we will see more and more "mature" students returning to colleges as there are changes in the working conditions in the real world. But I do admire those who do go back - they must have guts. I don’t know if I could do it if I was in their shoes.
