Continued Health Coverage

Recently, I’ve been dissatisfied with my job and decided a couple weeks ago to hand out some resumes to find another.  It turns out that I had five interviews and I ended up taking a position with one of them.

One of my biggest concerns over switching employers was going to be the loss of our health coverage for three months until I qualified for the medical plan at my new job.  For most people this wouldn’t be a problem, but my wife takes some expensive medication to keep her diabetes and arthritis under control.  If we had to pay the entire bill for her medication, it’s we wouldn’t be able to afford the roof over our heads.

A buddy of mine suggested that we could get short-term insurance to cover us for the three months that we wouldn’t have full medical coverage from my employer.  When I looked into it, it was the most affordable route for our family to maintain our health and our standard of living.  It was the smartest choice I made for our family.
