Needing a Little Spending Money
While I was attending college, I got a part time job at a jewelry store, not too far away from campus. I had not originally planned on working and taking classes at the same time, but I had also not planned on the cost of living being as high as it was.
I decided that I could devote a few hours each day to selling wedding bands. I thought that it would at least give me a little bit of spending money, which is an absolute necessity when you are in college. My parents were covering tuition and most of my rent, so that left the money I had earned during the summer to cover the rest of the rent and buy my books.
The job had other perks as well. I had an incredible staff discount and I was able to buy my parents matching anniversary rings in diamond for their twenty-fifth anniversary. This is something I could have never afforded without the job.
